Tikina’gaan Park Brochure Design

Done in: 04.2023 / Customer: City of Winnipeg / Task: Graphic Design

When the City of Winnipeg agreed to rename Papoose Park to Tikina’gaan Park, they needed a brochure that reflected both the cultural meaning of the name and the spirit of community behind it.

Tikina’gaan is the Anishinaabemowin word for cradleboard, a traditional way Indigenous peoples have carried and cared for their babies since time immemorial on this land. The name change carries deep cultural significance, and I wanted the brochure design to honour that heritage.

The brochure was inspired by the form of a Tikina’gaan itself. I designed it so that when opened, it creates the feeling of opening a cradleboard—a visual and tactile connection to the meaning behind the park’s new name. This design approach allowed the brochure to go beyond simple information-sharing, becoming a symbolic gesture of cultural respect, identity, and storytelling.
